Milestones

These are some of the milestones we have we have seen so far in the construction of the new 201/202 berth: 

March 2013

Project OverviewPiling completed

The piling of the 37m long, 1.8m diameter tubular piles was completed on schedule at the end of March 2013.

This milestone date was important to meet in order to avoid any potential impact on migrating salmon smolts which begin to leave the River Test every April

 

 

 

 

 

 February 2013

SouthamptonApproval for Southampton Approach Channel Dredge

ABP Southampton has received consent from the Marine Management Organisation to improve the marine access to the Port of Southampton by undertaking a programme of capital dredging in Southampton Water, the River Test and the Solent.

 Known as the Southampton Approach Channel Dredge (SACD), the work is part of an extensive programme of investment centred around improving the capability of the port to receive the largest vessels in the world long into the future.

 

 

 

December 2012

PilesPiling works for the construction of the new quay wall starts.

Anchor walls are driven into the ground behind the existing quay wall (piling commenced October 2012).

The new quay wall piles (1.8m diameter tubes) are driven into the seabed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 November 2012

121031 003New £26 million crane contract is awarded to Liebherr.

Liebherr will provide the terminal with four new quay cranes which will have the ability to reach of 24 containers wide. Guests including shipping line customers, stakeholders, local MPs, the Mayor of Southampton and members of the press, witnessed the ceremonial lifting of the first paving slab.
