Connections

Road, rail or feeder ship, our customers have a full choice of options.

By sea

We are directly connected to 34 ports throughout Asia. The ideal first port of call or last port of call for Northern Europe providing the fastest transit times to your customer.

By road

Our road connections will take you to the heart of the UK – the ‘golden triangle’ of distribution centres in the Midlands – and on to the North East, North West and beyond. The Midlands is still the largest important destination for cargo; circa 60% of all UK cargo is destined for the Midlands.

The UK’s motorway network is on our doorstep. It’s only half a kilometre from the dock gates to the UK motorway network. And if there is a traffic congestion problem, hauliers are not stuck waiting – there are alternative routes.

By rail

The proportion of rail containers moved to and from DP World Southampton is far and away the highest in the UK. A £60 million project completed by Network Rail in 2011 has given clearance for high-cube (9ft 6 inch high) containers on standard wagons all the way from the South Coast of England to Scotland. Two operators run container trains out of the port, and there is plenty of room for expansion.

We have a near 100% success rate for rail boxes being delivered on time to the Maritime Terminal and provide the most reliable rail feed service of any terminal in the UK. In just 5 years’ time, Southampton will be the only deep water port in the UK with an electrified rail connection to the main UK network following a Government investment in the ‘electric spine’ project giving lower operating costs and a greener alternative.

By feeder

We also offer opportunities for onward transport by coastal shipping, providing links to Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Liverpool, Greenock, Antwerp and Rotterdam.
